The Oxford dictionary defines the word person as ‘a mask’, or one who plays or performs any part. The head of my sculpture is a mask representing this definition. The body the body represents the current definition of a person used under the law in America.

Most people understand a person to be human, due to implications in our justice system, but according to many philosophers including Mary Midgley and Immanuel Kant, a person can be defined as a conscious, thinking being who possesses self awareness.

My sculpture begs the question, what do you believe defines a person? Do you have any pets? Would you say that your pet is a person?
