Dance With Me, a collection of three hand-crafted garments and masks, seek to rewrite the narrative of intergenerational trauma by reconstructing aspects of cultural tradition through movement, aiming to break the cycle.
Each garment takes inspiration from the Sicilian folklore procession, Il Ballo Dei Diavoli. Activation of the garments alters the event's significance and becomes a symbol of change in the apparent relentless distress of the family system.
Materials such as cotton and leather reinforce the tradition of customary labor in Italy, while others, such as plastic and nail polish, point to the displacement between the subjects and their heritage.
